I eat a good diet and walk my dog every day! but even things like getting dressed, socilising and excersising seems like the biggest mission ever. I am currently on prozac (fluoxitine) and take this in the morning the doctor prescribed this as i keep having major mood swings and get very irratable, and have been on these since oct. but i have been having these other problems for a long time now can anyone suggest anything? please xx

You could have a thyroid problem ...

narmada Mon 28-Jan-13 00:28:19

I can't believe they haven't tested you for hypothyroidism with those symptoms shock. See GP for a test for that and anaemia - you poor thing.

Has your hair been thinning? Do you feel cold a lot?

steppyhen Mon 28-Jan-13 06:51:48

No hair thinning, always cold though. Have like slight memory loss also like I can't recall conversations I know I have spoken yo a person but wouldn't remember what was said if that makes sense? I'm only 23 ! Shouldn't be feeling like this feel like an old women.x

Def sounds like thyroid..

cravingcake Mon 28-Jan-13 22:02:43

Definitely could be thyroid but maybe iron levels could be low. I found that my memory went a bit when i first started fluxotine also (although that was about 8 years ago). One 'sympton' of depression is always feeling tired and is one i used to suffer a lot with. I had hypnosis therapy which was the best thing ever, would this be an option for you to try if tests for thyroid, iron levels etc come back normal.

Ask to be checked for vitamin b12 deficiency too. Very similar symptoms, my daughter has it and she is 18.

Was the hypnosis private or through the NHS ? Did it combat the tiredness ? So fed up sad

knackeredoutmum Tue 29-Jan-13 09:27:56

Do YOU eel like you are in any way depressed? Over and above the tiredness? Glum, lack of interest in things you used ot enjoy, lack of positive feelings about the future, anxiety etc?

If you really dont feel anything like that at all then I would have thought that any "depression" that you may have is a symptom of your problem and not the cause of it.

Unless you have presented with these kid of issues to the gp the I really cant understand why you have been sent away with ads instead of a batch of blood tests?

cravingcake Tue 29-Jan-13 10:47:51

The hypnosis I had was private, £60 per session and only required 3 sessions over the space of a about a month. The lady I used was very good and said most people require between 3 to 6 sessions.

I cant tell you if it helped with the tiredness as I fell pregnant around session 2, so had a whole different type of tiredness to deal with along with morning sickness

I would also agree with what knackeredoutmum has said, if you don't feel down, struggle to enjoy day to day activities etc then maybe (and this is only maybe, only you will know) you have been fobbed off by your gp and you need to go back and ask for some tests. Just tell them this is affecting your day to day life so want to rule out anything else. Ad's take around 6 weeks to start to work so you should have noticed some change by now, albeit only subtle.

They originally prescribed me with fluoxitine in Oct as was having really bad mood swings and was at the end of my tether with it was affecting my family. The doctor then refered me to see a phycologist as have been down the councilling route before . This was in Oct. My mood swings have not returned and have been less snappy and negative . But I still feel Exhausted drained and lacking go about myself. But in general no I don't feel depressed or suicidal. Other symptoms I have are always cold , head ache ,stiffness, feel sick , slight memory loss! X

narmada Tue 29-Jan-13 12:16:04

I think your GP was really remiss not to have ordered blood tests. please go back and demand some, won't you?

steppyhen Tue 29-Jan-13 13:27:10

Changed practise since then at a new practise have an appointment on Monday ! Hopefully get sorted ! Wanting to try for a baby in Oct can't see it happening if I feel like this !

steppyhen Tue 29-Jan-13 13:40:47

I also have frequent urination ! If that has anything to do with it ! Was prescribed ditropan I think it was but the side affects were awful so stopped taking it . Last time I went to docs about this they said I had an infection and gave me antibiotics !

Given what you just said about weeing a lot, you might also want to get your blood sugar levels checked. Type 2 diabetes a possibility albeit remote at your age.
