Don't believe what an idiot I am. Any advice about practical stuff, getting to work, living in the country when you can't drive. Even doing the kids hair seems impossible. Will we all look like scarecrows for 6 weeks?? What about bath/showers?
At least it's my left arm!
Does this mean I can stop LC boot camp and have a choc and wine to cheer me up?

Can't offer any practical advice but just wanted to offer Brew and sympathy. How old are your DCs?

Definitely have a choc and Wine - oi MN Towers - we need a chocolate smiley!

I broke my right wrist and drove just using fingers and the cast. You quickly learn to do almost anything one handed, after a week I could bake, wash hair, do laundry etc.

Thanks guys, it could be worse. Have to look on bright side. Luckily I have an automatic, so than might make it easier, even when cast is off.
Think might crack open a Pinot tonight.....

you'll be grand in an automatic, you don't need your left hand at all!

Get yourself a Limbo which is a waterproof cover for your cast then you can shower etc. You can order on line and they dispatch it immediately.
Brilliant product.
Hope you are feeling ok, am sure you will adapt to your cast quickly.

Poor you!
Did you do something spectacular to break it, like falling off the ladder from the top? If it was a low trauma injury - the sort that makes you think " surely I can't have broen it just doing that..." ask your GP if they think it's worth a scan to look for osteoporosis.

Ok driving while in a cast invalidates your insurance and makes you deemed unfit to drive by the DVLA. You will be in serious shit if the police stop you.

But on a more positive note you'll get much more comfortable as time goes by. Keep your arm up, even in bed pop pillows next to you so your elbow is resting on the bed but your hand is up. You can put a plastic bag over your arm and make sure it's tight up past the cast and you can attempt to shower.

You should see an orthopaedic doctor in a week or less in a fracture clinic. At that stage you'll be told if its stable. If its not you might need an operation or be called back in a week to recheck. You're looking at six weeks in a cast and, depending how stiff you are after, physio.

As crap as it is DO NOT DRIVE.
