can any of you diagnose me?breast abscess and then severe joint pain

Hello,
I think I have more faith in mumsnet than anything at the moment. Last month, my breast swelled up like a balloon, and was eventually diagnosed as a hugebreast abscess. I stopped breast feeding over 18 months ago, and don't smoke so surgeon was baffled why I got it but anyway, after a few weeks feeling feverish and sore, I had surgery to drain it and was left with an open wound that is still leaking pus. But it appears to be healing as it should. albeit slowly. He biopsied thelump too and there were no signs of cancer, but he wants to repeat the biiopsy in about 6 months to double check.
In the meantime, about 3 weeks after surgery I woke up with my joints swollen and in agony. I couldn't move. I was prescribed voltarol, which eases it, and told to stop all the anti biotics I was on for the abscess. My blood tests showed deranged liver enzyme results, some anaemia and slightly raised blood sugar. I had the bloods repeated yesterday, and am waiting for those results, and have been referred to a rheumatologist. My breast surgeon taking it very seriously but is also not saying anything. Can anyone help me? At first glance it looks like rheumatoid arthritic with some sort of liver complication. I had routine check ups in August that showed everything normal,so all this has come on since then.
has anyone had anything similar please? I'm getting really scared.

What antibiotics did you take? I have been on 6 weeks of Augmentin for a breast infection and my doctor said that in rare cases they can give you some temporary problems with the liver that normally improves over a few months.

I have had 2 breast infections in the last year and my breast consultant said i wasn't in the usual groups also as i am not BF , a smoker or a young woman!!

oh my god- that sounds so right. i have an itching down below as if i'm getting thrush, and one eye is a bit red too, symptoms which are all mentioned. I just thought I'm falling apart bit by bit.

I have been on a whole battery of anti bs includingamoxycillin, and flucloxicillin.

so sorry about your breast infections. they are grim, aren't they. hope they improve/.

This time i could have cut my boob off it was so painful ,the infection then burst through where i had the core biopsy done last year and i have the delight of going to the breast clinic again next week.

Hope you get sorted out and some answers soon.

Think i might have to go under the knife as there was a suggestion that they might remove milk ducts if it keeps recurring.

My DH had reactive arthritis after food poisoning years ago which sounds very much similar to what you are suffering. It seemed to move around his body and was extremely painful. He has had injections for it which improve it for a while.

Hope your GP can give you something to ease the pain.
