I have suffered from headaches and also migraines for many years, since I was a teen really. Over the years they have changed and have gone through better stages, but I have never really been without them.
After the recent study in the news about medication overuse headaches I definitely recognise that for about the last six months I have been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen at least three times if not 10 times a week. I have also been taking naratriptan most weeks.
So I'm owing cold turkey, gna try to go without,,so really just want to know if anyone has experience of this, or wants to try with me.
Any thoughts really..,, ?.
Thanks for reading.

I stated a thread a couple of days about this and the unanimous opinion of all was to see your doctor first.so I'm going to pass on the bossiness :-)

I remember reading an article about this in the British Medical Journal at least 20 years ago.

Research done way back showed exactly this - that overuse of painkillers caused rebound headaches. Definitely worth trying I think.

Probably a good idea to discuss with your doctor first though.

Have you been referred to a pain clinic, or a specialist migraine clinic?

Thankyou for your reply frogs. I am actually going th make an appt to see the GP at my practice who has a special interest in headache/migraine.
But yes this was not news to me when I read it,, but it just made me really think about what has been happening to me. So I am keen to get it sorted out.
Thankyou

I have successfully cut down my strong migraine tablets. But very slowly. About 0.25mg every 2-3 weeks. Nearly off it. I'd recommend doing it slowing rather than cold turkey Smile
