Hi all i posted on this board back in march when i had my first outbreak of herpes type 1(the coldsore one) in the genital area.

Thank you so much to all the mumsnetters that posted you were so helpful.

Im now worried i am getting my second attack. My only symptom so far is itching. That is how it started last time.I treated for thrush last time and i believe thats how i got an infection as used a pessary.I havent treated for thrush this time.Could it be herpes again??

What should i do.Be honest will it be as bad as the primary outbreak.Im so worried as last time was the worst agony i have ever experienced.

I have the same thing as you. HPV1 in the genital area. My first outbreak was incredibly painful - that's an understatement actually. I had ulcer type things on my bits, I could barely walk, and I'm not a wimp. Believe me!

Since then, other outbreaks have started with itching. Just not 'feeling right' down below. Stinging when washing that area.

But the other outbreaks have been nothing like as painful as the first one. I don't take antibiotics like some others that have this unfortunate condition as I'm not in a relationship at the moment, and have no plans to be in the near future.

Thrush treatments will not help. What has helped for me is Vagisil cream. You can order an 'extra strength' one through Amazon which I have found much more effective than the UK one.

I hope this helps. Take care. x

Can you get aciclovir tablets from gp. I have suffered with this for 10 years and need constant tablets to suppress the virus. i take 1x400mg tablet each day. no side effects. I suffered for 2 years with no treatment other than cold sore cream (which did Fuck All) until i saw a sympathetic doctor who put me on the tablets.

Thank You so much for the replies ladies.I have two spots down there at the moment and is itchy.I have been to the doctors and got the aciclovir.

TalesOfTheUnexpected has it hurt to go to the toilet with subsequent attacks as that is definitely the worst part.I cried with every wee when I had the first attack.

Hi Tearful

Subsequent attacks did not hurt half as much when I was going to the toilet. For my first attack I was in tears but I found holding toilet paper that had run under the cold water tap made a massive difference.

Probably TMI but when I had to pee, I got a wad of toilet paper, ran it under the cold tap and held it against my 'lady bits' as I urinated. Blush

I've not had to do that with the attacks I've had recently.

I've only had it for less than a year so I can't speak about whether that's normal or if it gets better. I just sympathise and want to give you a massive hug as it's an awful thing to deal with, but your initial outbreak is probably the worst one you will ever have.

Please feel free to message me if you want any other info or support. x

i had a very very painful first attack, couldnt walk etc- i found peeing in the bath helped (you have to shower afterwards obviously !!)

Since that first attack though i have never had anything like that - just the odd one here and there that's got less and less over the years

i would advise against using too much or strongly scented soap on them as it certainly irritated mine - also stress is one of the factors in attacks so although it seems awful now try not to worry too much about it.

Hi tearful, just wondering how you are feeling now? has your doc kept you on a low dose of aciclovir to keep attacks at bay?

Hi Slimenoseros thanks for the post.

Im feeling fine now.I was getting myself so worked up.I didn't actually see the doctor she just gave me a prescription left at reception as i was so panicky on the phone to her.I had such an awful first attack i was literally sweating and shaking at the thought of another.

The itching and one small pimple left as soon as it came it didn't look anything like the blisters i had before so not convinced it was a herpes attack.I took the prescribed tablets anyway.I did however have a dull ache right in my lower back and buttocks which is exactly what i had last time.

thats good news. the first attack is by far the worst usually. I get a temperature and feel awful before an 'episode' I don't get the backache though
