Hiya, my mum went for her first over 50 breast screening on Friday just gone.
She had a letter today, telling her to go back for further investigation tommorow.

Has anyone any experience of this - we are thinking the worst.

But are there any other reason she would have got called back?

Thanks

There could be many reasons that your Mum was called back. It could just be that they did not get a clear enough picture or there could be something that they just want to look at a little closer. Don't worry yourself thinking about what it might be, as it could just be for something simple but its better to be safe than sorry.

Theres quite a high recall from the mobile mammography units, especially when its your first mammogram. The vast majority of these are either for technical reasons (taking mammograms is quite difficult, and a speck of talc will show up), or because all our breasts are different and things like scars, fatty lumps etc all show up. Once you've had one mammogram, they can refer to previous ones to see what is your normal and don't need to check those again

Thanks ladies for your replies. I just wanted some possitive info, to calm her down,as she was in tears down the phone.
We will wait and see what happens tomorrow
Thanks again x

Several of my friends have been recalled and it was technical problems in all cases. Obviously your mum will still worry but try and persuade her to deal with each day as it happens

It is better to be safe and get rechecked than a minor problem be ignored. Even if there is something that they want to check, it is better that they are doing it sooner rather than later.

Keep being positive with her, it could be as simple as the scan wasnt clear enough. You have to get the boobs just right.

Panic over, it was a lymph node in her boob, that is usually under the arm pit!
So all is ok.

Thanks again for your replies, helped me to relax abit last night, and also give my mum some positive thoughts xx
