Anyone had Endometrial ablation?

I posted this in menopause but was advised to put it in here too. I am booked to have this next month and although it is what I want I am getting pretty nervous. Can anyone share their experiences with me?

I had it done in April last year and am glad I did. Before the procedure I had very heavy periods with clots that would sometimes last up to two weeks. I still have periods but they are now lighter and shorter.

I had it done under GA at the same time as a laparoscopy so for me the recovery time was about two weeks. If you're just having the ablation done though it will probably be much shorter. They normally recommend that you mostly rest for the first two days afterwards.

Hope it goes well for you.

I had it done a few months ago - have had two periods since and wish to god I'd had it done years ago - I've gone from superplus tampon plus pad needing changing every hour or so and crippling pains that made me pass out to being the kind of irritating woman adverts would have you believe in: 3 or 4 regular tampax in my bag for a long day at work, maybe a paracetamol once at some point and that's it...Grin

I had mine done under GA and tbh the anaesthetic caused me more problems than the actual procedure. Even then the GA issues weren't anything major, just vomiting afterwards and feeling totally wiped out for about 5 days or so, although that wasn't helped by me not eating much in that time I suspect. No real pain after the procedure either - I had started my period the day before the procedure so still had my usual 'crippling cramps' for a couple of hours after the procedure but I'm pretty sure that was period related rather than the procedure. No real pain or nastiness after the procedure really, I did have discharge and some bleeding for about 2 weeks but again nothing two major.

Let us know how it goes...

Thank you so much - that's just what I needed to hear! I'm having it done with a GA and am guessing that will cause me problems too as the two occassions before I have had one I have been really sick afterwards.
Good to hear you got a really positive outcome in the end though - that's what I'm hoping for!

I had this op about 10 years ago. I was suffering with really heavy periods.
It was totally sucessful and my periods became lighter and lighter then they stopped.

I always have problems with being sick after ga, so I mentioned it to the anaethatist and they gave me an injection during the op to prevent it.

So perhaps you should discuss this when you go in.
