It hurts! I'd forgotten how crappy it is, I haven't had it since I was a child. Dr has given me antibiotics to try which I started today. Any idea when I will stop feeling so achy and tired (and obviously feeling like I'm swallowing glass all the time?)

about three days for the pain to go enough to start eating better. Once that happens a couple of days to get back on your feet. Cancel the world for 1 week.

I agree with supadupa.

It's miserable isn't it Sad. You'll be better in a few days. x

Ok, thanks, I will cancel a few bits then. I'm managing to eat okish (the wonder of ibuprofen and paracetamol in rotation every few hours) but I'm just exhausted and so sore!

I had tonsillitis and felt rough on and off for nearly two weeks. I was prescribed antibiotics, but didn't fill the prescription because I felt a bit better after a couple of days, so I thought I was beating it by myself. But then it just hung around for ages, and then started to get worse, so I did start taking the ABs after about 10 days, at which point I got better very quickly. Don't know whether it was the ABs or just that the infection was going anyway - but next time, I'd take them right from the start (if offered).

Yes, I know what you mean cornflake girl, it's tempting to hold out with the ABs but I've got loads on next week so I really need to blast this away so I can get on with things! Pesky illness. Tsk.

Yeah - hope you feel better soon!

If you can bear it, gargle soluble aspirin - it's vile but helps the throat pain. The other thing is not to rush it as soon as you feel a bit better, I did that the last time I had it - felt vaguely alive after about 4 days, got up and tried to do too much and ended up back in bed for another WEEK. I think the older you are the more severe the effects. Good luck, and get well soon.

I must be ANCIENT then frosty Grin, Day four of antibiotics and I'm still feeling absolutely wiped out and one side of my throat (the other is weirdly fine) still has that delightful 'just swallowed glass' feeling which is also travelling up my jaw and into my ear making that ache too.
I'm sending dh out for soluble asprin later - I've been relying on paracetomol and ibuprofen but I'm beginning to rattle when I walk.
I'm bored of this now
