I went to the dentist yesterday and was prepped for a crown being fitted in 2 weeks. No prob. As often happens I had two dry sore(ish) spots just inside the corners of my mouth afterwards. I put Aloe Vera Vaseline on them this morning.

I now have two blisters at the corners, and just inside the corners, of my mouth.

I also put the vaseline on my lips, which are fine. I use AV vaseline often, with no bad effect until now.

Have you any idea why this has happened?

Could it be the result of a malignant chemical reaction - something from the dentist and something in the vaseline; or would these blisters have come up anyway (not happened to me before, but hey).

It's just odd that they were just dry spots until less than 15mins after putting the vaseline on.

Also, as I'm due to go back in two weeks, what can I put on these blisters that won't (or is less likely to) react with whatever it is - if it is a reaction - to get rid of them quickly.

Thank you.

PS They're bloody annoying too!

As a dental nurse, I would guess at

1] Normal sore cracked lips due to prolonged pulling around

2] Latex allergy

Any other symptoms?

I would avoid anything except Vaseline, tbh. Aloe is very good, but I find it irritates my lips.

Next time, put a good covering of Vas on before you are seen & mention this.

Thanks.

No other symptoms. Other than that, my lips are fine, it's just those pesky corners! They are doing a sort of tingling throb at the moment, with a touch of burny nerve pain type feel, but that last bit's minimal. They don't like tea at all! (That's a disaster for me!)

Aloe's usually fine with me, but I'll get the ordinary stuff when I go out again later; shame, as all the lipsalves we have are aloe too!

I'll do the vaseline thing next time and tell them (I've tried phoning already but they're v busy), but I want to be sure these blisters will be completely gone within two weeks.

I am pretty sure they will be healed in a day or so. They do sound painful tho!

You could try something like bonjela, to numb them a little.

Avoid anything too hot or salty, as it will be wuite painful.

If it lasts more than a couple of days, gets worse etc, call & get advice asap.

But it sounds to me like your lips dried out during treatment & split. Not uncommon, happens to me sometimes too!

differentnameforthis, I'm sorry, I think I've described it wrong. The sore bits were inside my mouth just near the corners. They weren't split and aren't split now.

And now they are blisters, not splits. (BTW, I always put aloe vera vaseline on splits and it has never done this.)

Sorry if I'm like a dog with a bone.

Ohh OK. In that case,..maybe they are ulcers, which can also be caused by trauma.

Oh, nothing to worry about then. Sorry I took a bit of convincing. Thanks differentnameforthis. Smile
