Hi, I want to transfer some film footage from my camcorder to laptop. I bought a Belkin IEEE 1394 Firewire Cable 6pin-4pin (1.8mtr) which was advertised as being compatible with the MV500. i have the lead and it does not fit into the camcorder nor my laptop. I am a real technophobe so please
forgive my ignorance but I want a lead that will transfer my film to laptop and thought that is what I was buying. What do you think has gone wrong with this.

I checked the specs of the camcorder an it does indeed support firewire. Have you looked under the little flap at the front under the lens? Thats normally where the connectors are.

As for the laptop, it would also need a firewire socket to connect up the cable. Unfortunaltly, firewire ports are not normally standard on most laptops (seems cables are soooo 20th century. Its all wireless and flash memory these days).

You can get adaptors to allow you to connect firewire through USB, but i have not used these and cannot say if they are any good or not, i would expect it to be a slower transfer speed at the least. Not sure about loss of quality. Its still cheaper than buying a new laptop though!

NNS thanks so much for taking the time to explain. It is much clearer now!
