OMG - what the hell has he done to my PC - ??????????

We had a shop up the road "clean up" our pc today, whilst putting in a new DVD slot, and new USB point.

We had 3 accounts on our Windows - one in DH's name, one in mine, and one in my parents.

Now we're home (and they're closed) all we can find is shared documents. All the stuff that we've filed in our own areas has "disappeared". in Explorer you can still see directories called "john" and "Florence", and "parents" but when you try and go in to them it says access denied.

Also, when I looked at properties for each of them it said "0" bytes etc...

Has he truly wiped 5 years worth of material for each of us????????????

DH is spitting nails, and I'm just numb. Baby scan photos, baby photos, emails from when we first met etc etc etc....

DH said to him we wanted everything backed up because we're off overseas, and we forgot to ask for a disc when we picked it up, but if he backed everything up before he reinstalled windows (no idea why he did that), why are only the shared documents back on there?

I know, I'm asking alot, but someone please make me feel better........

Don't panic!
They surely must have backed up your stuff before touching the PC. Nobody would be so stupid as to wipe the disk surely?

the only time ive seen "access denied" is when i'm in one of the kids' accounts..mine is administrator account?

apart from that no idea sorry, hope you find your files.

Apparently not. I've just spoken to him and he said that there were so many viruses on there, and it would have taken another 30 minutes and my DH was in such a hurry... !!

He says it's all in there, it's just a matter of accessing it. I've got to take it back in tomorrow. Oh, I've got a horrible feeling about this...........

Yeah, mine is the admin account, which should mean you could access everything if you ask me!

Do you know any of hte file names?

Can you run a search and see if one can be found. You might find teh others in teh same place.

I sorted it out myself!! I'm so chuffed! I ventured into the den of MS discussion boards, and found something helpful.. few clicks later and all is restored Thank you for answering, even if you didn't have the answer, it was nice to know someone was listening!
