Amazon Firestick

DH is thinking of getting a dodgy Firestick, something to do with Kodi and getting free films which haven't yet been released. Sounds highly illegal.

Apparently thousands of people use them?

Is this true? Will he go to prism if he uses one?

I have one. I think there is a loophole somewhere that downloading the software is not strictly legal but streaming is - it might be the other way round. I doubt very much that anyone would be imprisoned for using it.

Amazon's firesticks are perfectly legal... they access mainstream channels and also Amazon Prime video if you are a Prime subscriber.
Kodi on the other hand has just been made ilegal.
I use my firestick for Prime and watching the Walking Dead!

So watching films or TB programmes through Kodi is on a par with buying and watching a pirate video in the 80s/90s - illegal on paper but no one ever got prosecuted??

I don't think Kodi is illegal it's just a media player but you can get addons/extensions that do illegal things which is why selling pre installed fire sticks is illegal.

I think I know more people who use Kodi on a firestick than don't.

Recent article here from March 17 which suggests streaming copyrighted content is not illegal (according to EU law).

There seems to be a lot of conflicting material on the legality of it!
