Broadband speed check

After recent reports of low Bb speeds in many areas , including a review by our local mp , I ran an online speed checker linked via FB which cited BBC Watchdog. Results seem positive but am now concerned re. accuracy of such assessments and whether it could compromise security to use one. Any reassurance please?

Use Ookla speed test, Google it!

I have already used broadbandperformance but can't find any reviews so was fretting a bit afterwards. Are these things generally similar and harmless?
