What laptop for home use?

I would like to buy a new laptop as my notebook has died, and my iPad is more for Internet use than anything else.

My budget is basic, but which of these brands is better?

HP, Lenovo or Acer?

I've had Samsung and Toshiba before, and don't rate them much.

I have just been having the same dilemma. I did a bit of research and HP and Acer definitely ranked over the Lenovo generally.

I have just ordered an Acer from Currys. The spec was great compared to the HP for the same price but the HP laptops were definitely prettier.

I'd have to disagree 100%.

I know it's a different price bracket but for business Lenovo Thinkpads are almost the only brand to consider.

Acer are renowned for bargains in that they appear to be good value for money but they are built with the cheapest components and break very quickly.

that being said all brands have good and bad models, so research specific models, not brands.
