Smart tv information for a techno-ignoramus

Believe this - I know nothing, so these questions may seem really stupid and I can't find the answers by googling.

I am in Spain, where we've just lost all satellite UK tv, so I'm looking for an alternative

I understand that smart tv is tv connected to the internet. Does this mean I would be able to access all the standard UK tv channels via internet on a smart tv?

I understand you can surf the internet with a smart tv, but can you also email?

Does a smart tv have a memory like a pc? For example, can I keep all my photos, documents etc on it?

You can't exactly view all the UK channels. What you can do is access the on demand services such as BBC iPlayer and 4OD.

You can't surf the Web on all smart TVs. A smart Tv is one which has an I Internet connection but some do not actually have a browser. Those which do, you can certainly email from.

Yes, smart tvs have memory which allows you to download apps, store pictures and movies, etc. However, the amount of memory will depend on the TV.

Hope that helps.

Thank you - a nice, simple no-jargon response, I can actually understand it.

Not all smart tvs are the same. Mine can not access 4od, itv player, demand5.

What I would suggest is linking a computer to the tv, then anything you can watch on the computer you can watch on the tv. It is not perfect but it may give you more options. Also lets you test out now what you can and cannot watch, as the systems may well detect that you are not in the uk and thus not let you watch live, or let you access all content.
