Help me understand News Readers and do I need to use them?

I've not got to grips yet with news readers (not the ones on TV, the ones on t'interweb!)

I follow a few blogs but wonder whether with a news reader I can view all blogs I follow (from different sites/hosts) in one place.

If so, which is the best to use and how to make sure I see it every day, i.e. can I get a reminder via email or something?

I use my PC mostly during the day and android smartphone in the evening.

Sorry if this is a really stupid question and thanks for the help.

Yes, I use one of these. I have an app on my Android phone called Newsrob that is linked to my Google Reader account. So, I load the RSS urls of blogs and newspapers I follow into that site. I think most sites have an easy "Add to Google Reader" button under the RSS link. Or, you can past the RSS feed thingy into your Google Reader account.

Anyway, my phone app downloads everything from Google Reader and then I can lie in bed for a few minutes after the alarm goes off and read the news.
