Kindle fire or Gemini 8inch Tablet???

Of those two, definitely the Kindle. But personally, I'd go for the Nexus 7 instead if you can stretch to an extra 40 quid.

Emailed my brother last night and he said the same thing as you have

I have just popped to Tesco to check the size of them and there was someone in there from Samsung promoting the Samsung tablet. Before I went I was all ready to order the Nexus and now I all confused again..

They are all really lovely though and I am glad I went to look at them.
