Powerpoint. Numbered Grid? Click on it, images behind. Help Please.

Please could anyone help.
I have seen something, and am trying to re-create. But it may actually be beyond me, if it is too complicated. If so, please say, no offence taken Wink

I would like to do a powerpoint presentation.
First slide will be a numbered grid. Say 6 numbers.
When I click on a number, an image (say a clipart of a book and 2 words) will appear.
Then you can set it, so that it defaults back to the numbered grid. It defaults back to the first slide.
Allowing me to then chose the next number. Defaults back to the main numbered grid, until I have done all 6 numbers.
Then goes to a final slide, of .... Thank You/ Any Questions.
Can anyone help?

I haven't got powerpoint in front of me, but there should be an action buttons somewhere in a tool bar, and it will let you link to different pages. There is then a return button to put on the page you have gone to get back to the original page.
You should be able to put multiple action buttons for jumping to on the same page.

Then change the design of the button when you have set it up.

HTH, or someone comes along with better instructions

How much experience do you have with Powerpoint?

I'm not a pro but I know my way around a laser pointer Grin

You could do this with hyperlinks (probably do it far more efficiently with macros but they tend to confuse me)

Essentially, insert your clip art or whatnot, click on it, and go to 'insert' in the top bar. Click 'Action'. This will let you choose mouse over or mouse click, and will give you choices of action on next click.

As I'm below pro level, what I would do next is produce an unwieldy but functional series of slides that repeat the initial number slide so that you can revert to 'last slide seen' etc, as there appears to be no option for reverting to a particular slide number.

Ignore ignore ignore, you can indeed revert to a specific slide when you insert an action in connection to a specific clip art or picture. Just read the drop down list, like I didn't Grin

Oh. Thank you. Maybe this is more than I can handle. My powerpoint skills are a bit basic, not that great. Maybe it is a bit too complicated.

You can do it!

Give me a bit, I'll have a fiddle about and see if I can give you step by step for the first few slides - have to zoom just now, but will post this evening

Hmm....thought I had it but getting back to the start screen had me a bit stumped...but I think this should do it.

Put your pictures in (These would need to be on a white background that will ulitimately completely cover up the text box below - you could do this by grouping the image and an appropriately sized white box)
Put text boxes with the numbers over the top.
Animmate the pictures with the following settings (PowerPoint 2010)
Add animation - select your style
Click the "trigger" button on the toolbar Select "on click of "
Go to the animation pane (you can turn this on from the toolbar).
Click on the name of the picture you have just animated
Select the dropdown arrow next to picture that is now animated
Select "Effect options"
On the "Effects tab" there is a menu called "after animation" Select "Hide on next mouse cllick"

  • to help you with the name of text boxes I would create them in order 1 to 6 so that they will be called textbox 1... (If that doesn't work set a basic animation of the textbox - it will show up in the animation pane with its name. You can delete the animation afterwards). Youo can create these as small text boxes which don't actually cover up the picture to start with otherwise you can't click on the picture to animate it. You can shift it around, change the size ect. afterwards without changing the animation.

OP. I've just pulled together a template which does what I think yuor asking - you'll be able to modify the pics etc to suit you, but the action features are already in there.

If you PM me an e-mail address, I can send it over.

Basically, you need to use slide show, action buttons. And then chose from teh drop down list what you want clicking ont eh button to do - I used "slide.. and then the slide number, and then on the resulting page, I put an action button with the instruction go to first slide.

Its taken about 10 mins, so is fairly easy.

let me know if you want my very rough one.

Coming late to the party - I got DD to try it and she did it with four pictures, so it's doable, but it looks like you've got it covered - come back with an update!

Just to let you know, that Nextphase kindly sent me a presentation. And it looks great. And she put a great back button, so it is easy to get back to the original grid.
But something is wrong, because when I click on each of the numbers , it links to the same screen:
i.e. if i click , on the original grid, on number 5, instead of linking to pucture 5, it links to picture 2. If I click on 6, instead of linking to picture 6, it too links to screen 2.

I have obviously done something wrong, already, to make this not work properly !!

Also, I obviously need to change the pictures, but do not know how to. I want to insert clip-arts of .... lightbulbs and bibles etc.

Ds1, came home from school and announced that the elections are on Monday, having been previously told they were on Oct 8th, so there is now a sense of urgency.

I have e-mailed Nextphase, but I have no idea if she is around this weekend.
If anyone else is prepered to let me e-mail them my current presentation, to see if they can fix it, just in case Nextpahase is not here this weekend, Please let me know.

Aren't you overcomplicating this? Don't you just want:

Slide 1 numbered grid [press click]
2 First content slide (clipart/words/whatever) [press click]
3 copy of numbered grid [press click]
4 Second content slide (clipart/words/whatever) [press click]
5 copy of numbered grid [press click]
....
12 Sixth content slide (clipart/words/whatever) [press click]
13 Thank you

... or do you really want something interactive so some other person can click backwards and forwards between the grid and the slides? If so, when does the "thank you" appear? If that is the case you want hyperlinks not action buttons.

Over-complicating things? Blush Yeah, you could say.
Punching above my weight? Blush Err, yeah, you could say.

You know when you start something, and wished you hadn't bothered ?

Ds has made, himself, a very nice word document, which I have printed out for him, if this all blows up in my face !!

Anchovy, I know your good at these things, and all things accountancy/financial. You want to take a look at what I've got and suggest a fix?

For future reference the optimum solution is probably to set up the content slides as individual Custom Slide Shows. You can then insert hyperlinks on each of the text box 'triggers' on the master slide to the appropriate show, selecting 'show and return'. Finally select "Transitions" on the master slide and clear "Advance slide on mouse click" so that it doesn't continue to the next slide when you click outside the triggers. Set any timed transitions you want e.g. to return to the master slide automatically.

Just to let you know, that I made a MAJOR error, and did not save it to the memory stick correctly. Sad
I thought I had and I went back and checked it, but when ds bought it home , I checked again, and it was blank.
All the other boys had Power Point presentations, and ds did not win.
Actually, I was really hoping he would not win.
But you all worked so hard, and I and ds then worked hard on getting all the clip arts right etc. And I wanted him to enjoy doing the Powerpoint presentation. He did do a presentation, based on the word document I had printed out and also coped to the stick, but it was not the same. Sad
I have had a little sob tonight. Anger and frustration at myself.
I am really sorry. I am so mad with myself I don't know what to do.
Sorry all your hard work was wasted. Sad
