Got a Handicam as a present which I love but in reading the manual says that the CD is not supported for Macs and to contact Mac for any software.

Need to download what's on the camera, but am Hmm in knowing how to do it.

I've not got one of these cameras but if you just plug it into the mac, does iphoto/imovie not recognise it?

Sony Handycam's are weird, for reasons best known to Sony they don't just work in a standard way and you used to need special software.

I've heard of various fixes ranging from installing unusual conversion software to plugging it in and leaving it for a few minutes before it suddenly kicks in.

If you can confirm that exact model Handycam, your Mac OS version (Leopard? Snow Leopard? Lion?) and your iLife version exact instructions can be found.

No, it doesn't recognize it and the manual says Mac users need to contact Mac as the CD installer isn't supported on Macs. Some manufacturers say this to mean, 'don't call us if it doesn't work...' but the CD is not recognized.

What's soooo irritating is that my mom very kindly bought it for me because is says 'Mac Compatible...' Hmm

Am on Mac 10.5.8 and a Handicam HDR-CX115

Any idea where I can look for instructions?

Try this...

//www.sonydigital-link.com/tutorials/dime/imovietransfer/imovie.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&f=CAM&m=HDR-CX115E

If it doesn't work at which point does what it say should happen differ from what does happen?
