I know, I know, a lot of people would think this a good thing :o

I can get on any other site, but cannot get on Facebook with either IE or Chrome.

I've tried the flushdns thing...

Thanks!

can you describe what happens when you try? Any error messages?

Oooh, I'm going to butt in here too... I've had no end of problems with FB and MN since a recent Windows update. Have to keep logging into both despite lowering security/privacy settings and faffing about with cookie recognition etc.

Did it happen after an update?

Possibly, can't remember now!

In chrome you get 'oops google could not find...' Etc

IE is internet explorer cannot display the webpage.

Every so often it relents and lets me in. Which makes it baffling.

I've reset the wireless network adapter more times in the past couple of days than is necessary, it's what windows keeps suggesting.

Thanks for helping :)

Ooh a new message

Could not connect to the web server...

Windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically.

Confused

This will sound odd but have you recently plugged in one of those sonic mouse/mosquito scarers anywhere near your router? If you have, move it and the problem will probably go away... I promise I'm not making this up.

Or, if you have BT provided broadband, it could be automatically connecting to either BT Openzone or BTFon - either of which can screw things up for your normal sites as you'd need to log on using those services.

I worded that last paragraph badly - I meant that if you'd automatically been logged onto a different service, you'd either need to log onto that service or re-connect to your usual service.

No, and no, but thanks for the suggestions. It's Orange broadband, and it's all newly set up as we've just bought a new house. I just assumed that if there had been a problem with the set up, then all sites would be affected, not just this one!

I've been using fb fine up til now, but at the end of last week it started buggering about. There must be some setting somewhere on my laptop it's disagreeing with!

Sorry, I misunderstood and thought you were getting an error message across the board. Hopefully someone will come along who can help...

Thanks anyway. I think I am in some sort of vortex of non-facebookness.

Probably no bad thing!

Sounds like some sort of firewall setting blocking it. Do you run a desktop firewall such as Norton?

I've also seen this once with a friends router where for some reason it took exception to Facebook wirelessly. Bizzarely it worked using a cable....no clue why! But in your case since you are using a Dongle, that seems unlikely.

No, just wireless.

I've noticed that if I delete browsing history it sometimes lets me in, today has been not too bad.

I do have Norton though - and that seems to have a mind of it's own - how can I check if that's causing me problems?

Sorry, to clarify, we are on Orange home broadband so laptop connects to wireless router.

I wonder if it might be a DNS issue. Perhaps try redirecting DNS requests to Google Public DNS and see if your laptop then finds Facebook.

It could be DNS but it's a bit tricky to change the settings if you are not sure how to switch from DHCP to manual or au fait with fiddling with your wireless router.

Try disabling Norton first. Not used Norton for a long time so not sure how to disable it. Try either right clicking the little system tray icon or opening the program and hunting for an option.

I have 'successfully flushed' dns - is that related?

Fb is working at the moment so will wait until it disppears again to fiddle with Norton.

Thanks for replies!
