I want to get my husband a nice present. he will use it on the sofa surfing, watching football and perhaps some games.

Love macs (2 sons have them) and considering getting H an ipad.

Son number one says no get a win 7 machine because of flash, son number three says go mac no problem. Son number two doesn't care!

Any ideas? I think he would like ipad but am worried that flash incompatibility will annoy him.

Personally I don't find the lack of flash on iOs gadgets a problem. But then again if someone really loves playing flash games then they're going to feel differently.

One downside to remember with the Windows Laptop is that you're going to enter that hamsters wheel of security issues. Windows laptops take some looking after and maintenance to keep them in a nice working order.

An iPad is just going to keep on working without that sort of work being required.

However a laptop would be enormously more flexible.

But an iPad is just so nice to use and it wakes up immediately or boots from off in seconds.

As a present which will be useful, get a laptop with Windows 7.

However, if you are gonna buy presents which are useful then I guess your husband should get you an iron or a kettle rather than jewelery right? Wink

As a present, go for the iPad.

Screw Flash. I have the ipad and frankly there's only two things so far I've found I can't do.

  1. Watch 4OD (Channel 4 iplayer)
  2. Kids play Miniclip games (not a big deal)

I've missed much Flash less than I thought and I've totally loved the rest of the gadget. The netbook & laptop in the house are now practically unused.

Even porn sites are not HTML5. Obviously i only went on those for research purposes you understand...cough

Am inclined to agree! He won't use it for work as he has one for that.

Then get the ipad. It's not a work device. You can use it ofc but its primary purpose is to be a home surfing device. Something you have on your coffee table and just use.

It is really hard to explain to people without one, just really how useful it is. I guess its a bit like a TV remote. Yes you can get up, go to the computer, boot it up and use it. Or you can just press the button and it work.
