I went to my local diy store this afternoon asking for a product that will kill all the weeds in the garden lawn but not the grass.

He said there wasnt anything that could be used apart from a spray gun. I have 100ft of lawn so cant use a spray gun.

Can any one suggest a good one. I do need to kill all the weeds first the help the grass to be strong and grow again.

There are plenty of lawn 'feed and weed' products on the market and now is the perfect time to apply them. With such a big lawn you might consider buying something to apply it. You can get a little bucket type thing on wheels which you just push along and it puts down the right amount of stuff. Read the instructions as some need to be watered in so apply it before rain is due or you will have to use a sprinkler to water it in. You got bad advice, there's loads of stuff out there and now is the time to do it.

Thank you very much, i will go to another place and find the right stuff.

I snow the right time to apply grass seed too?

I would leave the grass seed a few weeks. Let the feed and weed do its stuff first then put the grass seed down.

I just mow the grass and weeds 'cos i want to encourage birds and insects in my garden. If you continually kill the weeds you are affecting the environment badly.

You also have to make sure that you don't breathe it in or get it near any DCs; some people think it's cancer forming.

I like daisies and violets

I like daisies and violets too but i dont like thistles and dandelions that are all over the garden. Its not a small amount they are over running it much more than the grass which is being suffocated.

As Bob Flowerdew says that if you mow every week the weeds can't withstand it and die any way the grass is stronger (it's a weed too!) and will cope with the mowing.

Then you can sow stronger grass seed in the gaps left by the dead weeds that you can grub out
That's got to be better than going the chemical way.
