I'd cane them and get some miracle grow on them - one of mine went bendy so i caned it and watered well twice a day and it's growign well again

Chuck water over them and they will be fine Hausfrau. I can't stand the things but every year (not this year whoopee!) one of my children brings home a few plants that grow into monstorities despite my best efforts to kill them.

Are they better now Hausfrau? I would think water would have been enough to revive them.

I agree with others re the trauma of looking after the kids' sunflowers: I reckon they're not THAT easy at all. I've resorted to mending broken stalks before now, with sellotape (and they did make it, just about.)
