Should I dig up the tree rose in my front garden?

Just hoping for some ideas, really. I have a smallish front garden, there is already a drive for the car, there's about a 3ft border by the front wall, and the rest is gravelled, and in the centre is a tree rose (is that what it's called, or a standard rose?).

Its got very small pink flowers (in flower now, quite pretty) but it leans over and only grows to one side (inherited when we moved in 5 years ago btw). there is a small what I would call a rock garden around the base of it.

I'd like to modernise the front a little, maybe change the gravel for slate or something, but i don't know whether to get rid of the rose, I hate the idea of digging it up but is it dated?

COuld you use it in your back garden? Or offer it on Freecycle? Thr way it is growing could be fixed by staking so it might have life elsewhere.
If you really want to make your front garden more modern then I woudl move it, better to wait until autumn though when it will be dormant.

Plants need to either make you happy, or usefully fill a space between other plants which make you happy.

If it's the main thing there and you don't love it, then its days are numbered.

Back garden doesn't have space for it really, and too shady. I really want to change the look of the garden altogether. Freecycle is a good idea, I couldn't bear to just take it to the tip!

So is it better to wait until Sept/Oct rather than attempt any major work now?

I just destroyed a tree rose in the back garden because it grew and grew so quickly and the thorns were horribly sharp and long

it was very satisfying but my goodness, its roots were like a proper tree!

Get rid of it if you don't want it. But if you have some love for it, you may find yourself leaving it there.
