Pots only

I am determined to have a pretty front garden but it's all pebbled so will need to be pots only. What kind of things can I plant in pots to add greenery and colour?
Should I only plant one thing in each pot or can you plant a variety if it's fairly big?
Quite shady but good late afternoon sun

Bigger pots are better, so say three large ones. Less watering. You can always mix and match by adding pots of tulips etc...

I agree, go for the biggest you can get, put some gravel in the bottom for stability and it makes them difficult to move. Heaven forbid that someone would take them!!
In each of mine I have an evergreen statement plant ( holly ball) and then I change the surrounding plants according the season. Trailing plants at the moment.

Line ceramic / terracotta pots with bubble wrap. It gives some frost protection and reduces watering. You can put anything in a pot - Veggies are brill in pots. We have beautiful lettuce away from the slugs 🤫 put polystyrene peanuts in huge pots if you don't need the depth of soil they are also useful for drainage at the bottom if you don't have broken pots for the drain.

We have just had some work done on our garden and on one side we have had a raised pebbled bit with pots and a little gazebo. My DH has a back problem so we are getting rid of our flower beds and have paved or put pebbles down so he will be doing pots instead. It was only finished a couple of weeks ago but might give you an idea. We had two little Laurel trees in pots at the front of our house but DH now likes them on the pebbled area.

I've attached a couple of photos. One was when it was still a work in progress then the finished result.

Get big pots the plants will do better. Iv just bought a beautiful patio rose from eBay loads of flowers already even though it’s stil small it will look fab when it fills the pot in the next few years

Bay looks good in pots, I've got different evergreen grasses, the rest I put bulbs in depending on the time of year.

I'd put something like a corkscrew rush in the middle, couple of small ivy to trail down the sides. Then fill in the gaps with seasonal colour - it'll be time for winter pansies, cyclamen and primulas.
And keep a couple of pots for planting bulbs in - daffodils etc, so they can be brought to the front of your display when they flower in the spring.
