Ranunculus/giant buttercup

Does anyone have any advice or experience on planting these lovely flowers? I'm aware I'm too late this year, but if I plant in late autumn, would I then need to overwinter indoors? I don't have a greenhouse, would a cold frame offer enough protection? Or plant in early spring? Flowering plants are always quite slow to bloom in my shady courtyard, even the sunnier spots.

I’ve planted mine in the garden, so just hope they do ok outdoors. I didn’t think they needed special treatment.

I planted a load as bulbs a couple of years back, they've really got going this year. So pretty!

Several years ago at our last house I planted a pot of these near our pond,I bought it at a garden. It spreads like wildfire,throwing out lots of runners.Essentially it's a weed in most gardens.Now I have it growing wild down at the bottom of our current large garden,and left unchecked it goes rampant if your soil is moist. If you plant it now I think you will find it is virtually indestructible, and certainly will survive winter.It is pretty I agree,but pull up the runners frequently to stop it smothering other plants.

Rampant sounds good! I'm newly discovering my green fingers. I'd be planting them in containers anyway, so they'd be restrained.
