is it too late to plant snakeshead fritillary in pots?

hi all
as above Grin

My mum is under the impression they don't flower well in the first year anyway so maybe this would be waste? I have a south facing balcony so have to see the bulbs as needing replacements each year as the sun fries them in summer!
