Ponds and newts

I think my pond has a leak. I thought the water level had just dropped because of the sun and wind but now I'm not so sure.

I've got at least two newts, dozens of tadpoles turning into frogs, and frogs. Can I move them ? Isn't there something about not touching newts ?

Newts and frogs are amphibious, so will survive out of water, as long as they have a dark damp area to live in.
As far as I am aware, as long as you don't have a rare species of Newt you could put them elsewhere.
In this hot summer, I'd just top up the water and wait till the Autumn to repair the pond, when the tadpoles have grown into frogs.
Other wise I'd try and create a temporary pond and transfer the contents there.
