I have a Dogwood (no idea what type, but it's about 8 years old I reckon) .I cut it back every year , the height is about 5-6 feet. But I should hard cut it shouldn't I?Is now the time? (I don't want to risk the plant, I love the colour in winter)
Yes you can do it now, or up till the end of April. Cut it hard back to 6" or so. It will be fine.
I live In London and cut my red ones back yesterday. I don't think you will lose it. If it is very big and still has lots of colour, maybe do half now and the rest a bit later.I shove the prunings into the ground as they take very easily this time of year.My midwinter fire, I leave till a bit later because it is planted in a cold shady area of the garden.
