Help with my neglected garden please.

We've just moved into a new house and the previous tenant didn't do anything much in the way of looking after the garden, or indeed the house but that's another matter

I know there isn't much I can do with winter around the corner but yesterday we did cut the lawn, trim back the hedges and pull up weeds and brambles that where starting to lift the patio. It certainly looks tidier so happy about that but the lawn is brown and almost straw like.

Is there anything I need to do/can do to the grass now to help prep it for Spring so it comes back all lovely, soft & green? Or maybe it's a case of leaving it to see how it does itself. Or worst case scenario, digging it all up next year and replanting grass seed.

Thank-you in advance for any help.

You can rake over the garden to get up any moss and dead grass, then you prick it all with a fork( for drainage), then put some soil down on the bare patches with grass seed and wait for it to grow. I am not sure if you can put fertilisor down now or if it is too late. HTH

Hi, thank-you.

Well I got as far as raking up all the dead grass and bagging it up then no further.

However I have noticed that it seems to be doing pretty well on it's own. It's really starting to green up already and the fresh green patches of grass that are peeking through are really making me happy Grin

Now, just to work out what to do with the front since it looks worse than it did before!
