Winter hanging baskets

Anyone going to be planting one? I am thinking of the following arrangement that hopefully will last: a small Japonica Skimmia in the centre (or one of those small dark red cordylines) then white pansies or violas then trailing ivy.

Watching with interest! I am going to be planting two for the front of the house and as my fingers are not very green yet, was going to stick with traditional pansies. Be nice to have something a bit more interesting though, so might look into your ideas too!

I've tried Skimmia before (in a large pot, not a hanging basket though) and it was good, and got replanted in garden in spring (where it promptly died!). I'm thinking of gaulthera this year. I like pernettya (evergreen, lots of berries) but they seem pretty expensive to risk in a pot over winter...

Oh, a gaulthera looks like a good choice as a centrepiece too. My Japonica Skimmia lasted all winter last year but didn't grow big so this is why I was thinking it might be a good choice as a hanging basket plant, but I will look into the evergreens with berries too....
