Upside Down?

Has anyone tried growing fruit/vegetables upside down? If so, what did you grow, how did you do it and how did it work out!

About to become a beginner gardener, so not speaking from experience, but i remember there was a segment on growing strawberries in hanging ball clumps for RHS Chelsea. If you google upside down strawberries quite a few things come up.

I had a Topsy Turvey, I think it was called, and I successfully grew cherry tomatoes on a south facing wall, hung from a bracket. tbh it was a novelty and involves standing on something to water it. It did look good though but not cost effective as I haven't used it since and it's not the sort of thing I would leave hanging over winter so once the toms were finished I took it down and it has languished in the cellar for a couple of years. Also, the main criticism I have is the slightly lurid green pattern. I think they should have gone for a terracotta look. It beckoned, I fell for it! See if you can get a 2nd hand one.

I hate this sort of thing, there's always lurid photos in mail order catalogues flogging some bit of kit to make it work and saying what huge crops you get etc etc
We are not commercial growers, this is complete fantasy. Spend £25 on a piece of kit to increase your glut, and you have made your whole tomato season cost more than getting it in a supermarket. Just grow them & eat them.
