Can anyone explain if this level of BTEC Is ok for going on to university with 2 A levels ? He’s thinking business degree I know some Btecs are equivalent to an A level but haven’t seen this word subsidiary before. It’s an Esher college course. DS suddenly changed his mind from 3 a levels to 2 and this others would be business and history or psychology He is likely to get mainly 6s and 7s at gcse.

A subsidiary is '1 A level equivalent' if I remember correctly. (Diploma is 2 and Extended Diploma is 3).

The issue you may have is some universities/colleges may not accept the BTEC if they normally offer based on A levels. (Or they may be perfectly happy). What you/he needs to do is to contact some admissions tutors from a range of universities and see what they say.

(Why does he want to do a music technology BTEC if he is thinking of a business degree though? It seems a bit off piste. )

Work backwards. Look at potential degrees and their entry requirements.

My Ds is going to study the Music Tech extended diploma next year with a view to applying for university music courses. We found a couple of universities who won’t accept it and then several who wanted either A level Music or ABRSM theory alongside.

Some courses would only accept specific Btecs but others just wanted a certain number of ucas points.

So for example Bath prefer 3 A levels including both a math/science subject and an essay subject but will also accept a Business Btec.

Lancaster on the other hand accept a combination of qualifications.
