Any experience with an 'Uplearn' subscription to help with A Levels?

My Dd has put this on her Christmas wish list.

I had a quick look and see it's an online revision subscription with a hefty price tag that is only available for some subjects/exam boards.

It also guarantees an A/A* Shock

It's either a rip off con trick or something amazing!

Part of me is impressed that Dd has our this on her list. She's really keen to get to university.

Has anyone else heard of it?

I haven't but I'm curious

Hi @Parsley65,

We (Up Learn) certainly aren't a rip-off con trick and, in my opinion, are something amazing! We do guarantee the A*/A. Last academic year, we refunded 20 students out of the ~1200 or so eligible for the money back guarantee.

You can read about us in The Times here :)

Hi Chris - I'm impressed you found me!
I'm still interested and have done some research.
Presumably students only choose one subject? If so DD's weakest would be physics (OCR) or possibly business (AQA)
When is the best time to start? DD's A levels are in the summer of 2021.
Look forward to hearing back...

@Parsley65 sorry did a search to see if you were legitGrin
I’m also looking at uplearn for economics. I did look at them on Trustpilot and overall feedback is very favourable. We signed up to the trial but so far Dd hasn’t really used it. She thought the drawing thing was a bit fussy. I’m planning to get her to look at it again this month. She’s s big Seneca fan after using it for Gcse and getting great grades. Shes now using Seneca for A level economics, maybe check out Seneca as well. We started Seneca at the Easter the year before the exams ( so this Easter) and she achieved grade 9s in all her sciences.

Just checked Seneca does offer business and physics and equally offers the Aa* guarantee.
Why not have a go at trials on both?

Thanks for the replay Arewedone, though a bit puzzled you needed to check me out Hmm

Anyway, I've also looked on Trustpilot and Uplearn does look interesting.

I'll have a look at Seneca too and maybe trial them both.

Good luck to your Dd with her studies...

@Parsley65 because uplearn responded so quickly I did question whether your post was a “ plant” iyswim ! But hope one of them works for you!

Hey @Parsley65,

Some students have one subject, some have multiple subjects - it depends entirely on your circumstances :) we don't have Business yet though (and won't for a while as it's a nicher subject) but we do have OCR Physics.

I would honestly recommend getting started sooner in general. This is because the better your DD appears to be grasping the subject, the better her predicted grades may be for university applications if her teacher sees her doing well. And predicted grades are assessed through Year 12.

Hope this helps!

Hey @Arewedone!

It's not a plant 😂 we hold ourselves to extremely high ethical standards and risking the reputational damage from a plant isn't worth it for us.

I haven't checked if you work for Seneca and hopefully you don't 😂

Glad to hear your DD did so well at GCSE, and best of luck!

Thank you for this thread Parsley, I hadn't heard of uplearn before. It looks good but doesn't do the subject I'd really like for dd, Computer Science (OCR), do you know if that is likely to be added @chrisfromuplearn ?

@chrisfromuplearn ironically I have in fact paid for a full subscription to uplearn for Dd to use alongside Seneca. Hopefully we have covered all our bases. No, I’m nothing to do with Seneca but having seen how well it suited Dds learning style and of course the grades she achieved I’m now an advocate for online and alternative ways of learning.

Hi @OddBoots,

I'm sorry but we don't have any plans for Computer Science to be launched in the next 12 months 😥

Thanks @chrisfromuplearn - that's a shame but I do appreciate the quick reply.

@Parsley65 did you try Uplearn and how did your DC get on please?

Report

My DC had Uplearn and Snaprevise and whilst both are good he has definitely used Snaprevise a lot more and Uplearn has slipped into the background and hasnt been touched for months.

From a parents perspective I prefer the structure of Uplearn and can see how it would achieve those grades but DC found it very time consuming on top of the normal college work and not something he could dip into quickly which he does with Snaprevise to refresh his memory on a topic or do some quick revision or background knowledge etc before doing the topic at college.
