DD needs to get high grades in the science A levels for what she wants to do. Currently after one term she is working at one A, one B and one C. Is that usual at this stage of should she be scoring higher if her eventual aim is 3 As?

After 1 term in Year 12, my DD had scored ACD and BCD in her 2 interim tests in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. For AS at the end of Year 12, she scored ABA with the A in maths being a very high A, was predicted A star, B, A on her UCAS and ended up getting A star AA for her A Levels.

Just keep plugging away. Ask for help as soon as you hit a problem, either from a teacher, a tutor or both. Also do lots of exam papers, even if they are from other exam boards or previous specifications.

Hope that helps!

THanks for the feedback - it’s so hard to predict at this stage so this is useful to know

DD has been given target grades of AAA and so far she's working at A, B, C, exactly the same as your DD. Funnily enough the subject she's got the lowest grade in is the one her old school told her she could easily achieve A* at A level, so it'll be interesting to see what happens with that one. Has your DD been given target or predicted grades yet?

she need some to get 3 As and currently getting a C in chemistry - is that your dd C as well? I know a lot of them are finding chemistry tough as exam questions are particularly tough until you have a lot of the groundwork done
