Hi
Just wondering if anyone on here has experience of fostering unaccompanied asylum seeking children and if so how have you found the experience? We have been mainstream foster carers for 2 years and are now taking a break to have our own baby due August. I want to foster again once we feel the time is right and wonder how fostering usac rather than mainstream fostering will fit with our own child at home. TIA.

I've provided respite for an unaccompanied teenage boy in the past. He was very well behaved, but as is often the case proved to be much, much older than he had claimed once he 'turned 18'. Proceed with caution is all I would advise.

Thanks for your reply Sycamore. I've also heard of males particularly claiming to be much younger than their real age and with no passport or documentation no one has proof of the actual age. Good to hear that he was well behaved, as behaviour is always our greatest concern having fostered younger children with particularly challenging behaviour. I have heard that that the UASC can be very respectful of adults as that is in their culture.
