I have a 21mnth dd and wondered if its ok now to give her things like mayonnaise and soft cheeses etc etc. What do others give their toddlers?

Regular store-bought mayo uses pasteurised eggs, so it's fine whenever (there are salt concerns if your DD is eating it with a spoon, obviously), from what I know.

I give soft cheese to my DS2, who's not yet 1, but I do figure he gets some protection from my breastmilk. I think the official line is, they can cope with unpasteurised milk etc from 2.

the prob with mayo is the egg yolkd, but if it's in a jar they'll have been pasteurised anyway (not that I would worry - dd had soft boiled egg at that age).

ds has soft cheese at 18 months. Again, I think you only have to worry if it's unpasteurised soft cheese, but personally I don't worry anyway.

thanks, that has answered my question. She loves tuna and I friend said that it goes great with mayo(I hate mayo myself so can't really be a good judge) but wanted to try her on it.
I also hate cheese(dh thinks I am crackers, so always asking advice on cheese :-)

thanks

Soft/blue cheeses can be given from 1 year (according to Annabel Karmel). Shop bought mayo is fine too as it will have been pasteurised. As soft boiled eggs can be given from 1 year also, home made mayo is probably ok too now.
