I've just ealised that my grand plan to be out & about every day of the school holidays is flawed....I have an 8mo everyday of the week and 2 on 2 days.

Now cold baked beans are OK for 1 day
And Tuna & sweetcorn pasta (with mayo) for another
BUT I'm 3 days short...help?

That could be done - would it be a bit dry served cold?

But Rice Salad would work too

tuna chargilled with scrambled egg and peas (all pureed of course) - my baba tasted it for the first time and loves it

Would cold scrambled egg work? - I thought it would go rubbery

What about a cold omelette or frittata? I make a Greek pasta salad with feta, tomatoes, spinach and olives and that's served cold. Or pitta and houmous, interesting sandwiches or a wee picnic with ham, cheese, tomatoes, oatcakes, bread sticks etc.

Neither of them are managing solid ver well yet - def not finger food (and boy have I tried) - not toast or sandwiches either - worst luck

I have found some fruit smoothies that my dd now 12 months really like. They come in different flavours and done by the people that make goody bars. They are just enough for a little one and are like pureed fruit. I would also take bananas and fromage frais for good poods on the move.

truley fruits pots are great and DS loves them 9 months, can you not give a jar just for a one off??? they can be eaten cold

I suppose a mashed banana followed by a yoghurt wouldn't hurt once a week, I'll look out for the smoothies

It's hard to make decisions when they aren't yours - I wouldn't have thought twice about giving that or rice pudding instead of a meal for DD (when she was little - maybe not even now) 'cos I know her diet is generally good - but I can't assume that about mindees

Thanks Nannyjo - but this one has a funny nappy rash that arrives after a jar.....even Organix Jars

katymac - my ds3 deffo had rice pudding followed by banana for lunch when he was 8 months (he's only 10 months now so I can remember!). Pity they won't take sandwiches or toast as that's such an easy lunch. Could you take plain breadsticks with a dip?

GetOrlaithOut · 17/07/2005 22:36

Aren't they too salty?

Report
katymac · 17/07/2005 22:38

They won't eat bread sticks (at least not here - the one I have all week, her mum swears she eats toast bread sticks and biscuits at home - but not here)

my DS was too busy ripping finger foods to eat any but today i put philidelphia on it and he scoffed the lot.

Try the fruit pots then a yoghurt. and a bread stick etc that should do i wold think.

Or if you do a jacket potato and cheese melted in it then wrap it in foil and it stays warm for quite a while.

Blimey!

Couldn't they just eat anything you normally cook but cold? Like pea and sweetcorn puree/mash or something? Otherwise, I'd just go for the fruit and yoghurt combo!!

Beans (100g) have .9g of salt or .3g of sodium - I wouldn't want them to have that every day but once or twice a week within a fairly balance diet - I think that's OK

BTW a teaspoon is 25g so less than 1g is hardley a pinch......?

I guess - cold mash doesn't inspire me much tho'
Maybe I'm trying too hard

Just wondered as I've been thinking I can't wait till he can have beans on toast with the others! He's 10.5 months now and I was waiting till 12 months to give him anything with salt in the ingredients.

Whoops I got my teaspoon wrong it's only 5g - so It's a big pinch

There are low salt ones 9but they also have artificial sweetners in and I HATE them)

Sorry just checked my box and the smoothies are Waitrose Food Explorers Crushed Fruit snacks. I have to say it is very inconsiderate of those children not to eat finger foods, it makes life so much easier.
