Hello

Sorry for the silly title but I bought some lemon sole fish fillets from Sainsburys packed and the best before date was 08/07/05

When I opened the pack tonight I got a very strong fishy smell, I love fish and dont remember any other fish I have cooked smelling like that but I have no cooked lemon sole before so I went ahead and grilled it for 15 mins evenm though it tells you to grill for 10-12mins. Even after cooking it was still quite smelly. I took one bit and almnost got sick, it tasted just like it smelt (???such a word?) absolutely disgusting and fishy! Yuk!!!

Needless to say it went straight in the bin so dinner we had potatoes and stirfryed courgettes and carrot with chilli and garlic

I am worried that the fish was rotten and now I migh get food poision - would I from one bite?

How could it have been bad if it was not out of date until tomorrow?

Or does lemon sole just stink and taste like the fishiest fish ever?

Or am i just being over sensitive to smell and taste - the test gave me a BFN so its not that

Sounds off. would never eat fish other than the day you get it. Even one day does it no favours.

Definitely off.

Lemon Sole when fresh is virtually odourless.

Hopefully you'll be ok with just the small amount you tasted.

Well just to let you all know that one bite from rotten fish will not give you food poison

I should of kept the smelly fish and stormed down to Sainsburys with it and got my £3.00 back!!!

I will just stick to the fresh counter at Waitrose from now on - at least I can smell it before i leave the shop

Still go and complain to Sainsbury's - or email them through their website. I've heard stories about them redating their food that would make your hair curl...and your stomach upend its contents...

We always buy fish from the market. Can't stand supermarket fish, invariably not the freshest.
