I brought some fresh corriander from tesco and wondered can i plant it in the garden and take snipping when required

If it's one of the growing herbs in a pot then yes, you can.

yes I always do

I bought three pots of basil a month ago and planted them in a tub in the garden and they are still going strong (and we seem to get through mounds of the stuff)
