crayfish tails

I bought crayfish tails a week ago - they are fresh ones in brine. Unfortunately the use-by date has rubbed off so I can't see if they are still officially OK. So any guesses about whether they would still be OK to eat?

Does seafood degrade really quickly - these haven't been opened.

if they are fresh why are they in brine?

fresh fresh seafood from the fresh fish counter should be used within a couple of days as it;s usually already been frozen and thawed before sale.

I'd chuck them myself

Definitely chuck them out. Far too risky.

I just meant they aren't frozen - they are the sort you buy in a plastic pot from the supermarket (only small s/market, hasn't got a fish counter). Anyway, will take your advice and bin them.

Ta!
