Do you think it's too mushy to do with garlic?

If I had a marrow, I'd marrow in the morning, I'd marrow in evening...that is what your title made me think of!

Stuff it...cut it in half lengthways, cut out the seeds, shove in whatever and put on some cheese and bake it - leftover chicken and veg in a cheese sauce, leftover bolognese

chop it up and use it to stretch a casserole or curry

make rhubarb and marrow jam and remind all the really wrinklies like my mum how lucky they are that the war is over

marrow is basically flavourless vegetable mush. a real wartime veg. i loathe it.

Bin it.

Then buy something edible instead.

Don't bin it: compost it!

Actually, marrow and ginger jam is quite nice in a sort of "cucumber-sandwhiches-for-tea" kinda way.

Bizarrely, DH and DD both like peanut butter and marrow/ginger jam sandwiches, so I've made loads (saves the nice jam for me )

meltedmarsbars · 17/09/2009 15:05

I wouldn't put the marrow and ginger jam in with the cucumber - its lovely in a sponge with cream

Report
ElectricElephant · 17/09/2009 15:17

oh dear, I feel slightly ill now.

maybe I'll just mush it into DD's food, i'm sure she'll thank me for it!

In fact, I think dd fell through a 1950s timewarp somewhere, she can't stand courgette but is perfectly happy to eat boiled marrow & peas. Actually, I have to confess to rather liking marrow and peas myself, it reminds me of my Nan (who wouldn't eat these newfangled courgette affairs either).

Marrow and peas ?

Report
Takver · 17/09/2009 16:40

How my Nan always cooked it - peel & deseed marrow, cut into chunks, drop into boiling water with peas, cook for not too long. Ditto with carrots, also nice (if you like that kind of thing).

ProfYaffle · 17/09/2009 17:18

Oh it gets worse, now you're involving peas It'll be celery next, you mark my words.

Will nobody even acknowledge my topical (RIP Mary) wittisism?

I like marrow and ginger jam, have made loads as had several runaway courgettes - I used a Sarah Raven one.

My gran used to make marrow tart, god it was delish. Like pumpkin pie and sweet and spicy Yum.
