People who won't eat chicken on the bone are fucking infuriating

I've let the kid off because he's six and a treasured guest, and I've given him a lump of cheese instead, but deep inside I'm seething.

he wouldn't even taste it!

I think this is a hangover from days with the ex, who wouldn't eat it either, and used to make absurd statements about food to avoid eating my cooking (ie "I've gone off carrots" and "You know I prefer margarine!")

WHY won't people eat chicken on the bone? WHY?

I love chicken wings and legs, so you wouldn't find me turning my nose up at it, but then I eat most stuff.

Ha ha you'd love my DS. He loved having a chicken drumstick on the bone because he loves to investigate all the revolting rubbery tendony bits and ask what they all are - bleurgh.

Last time he enquired "mummy where are the lungs"

It happens because some people only give their kids processed chicken shapes etc in the belief that that is "kids' food" or "they won't like it" - so a real chicken is too scary.

I don't chicken on the bone, or anything with bones in really, especially if it is anytype of sauce. It makes me go all peculiar. And they hadn't invented chicken nuggets when i was a child!

Well I have one drumstick-gnawing child and one who will only eat slices of roast chicken breast.

Both will quite happily eat breadcrumbed/battered chicken as well

Oh god, my DH won't eat chicken on the bone. Or lamb or pork or fish. Drives me fucking mad.

He WILL eat dirty old pies and sausages though. So I tell him it's all ears, eyeballs and arseholes in them

I got him to dip it in ketchup and nibble it (he licked ketchup off "Don't like it!")

I took it off the bone for him ("Arrrrrgh, it's all BROWN!!!!")

I gritted my teeth and smiled and gave him some cheese.

I was a fussy little sod, this kid is 10 times better than me, but now I know why my mother used to get so angry.

I don't have nuggets, they smell like chicken poo.

I have fishfingers in the freezer but didn't have enough.

I served them with oven chips so the child did eat - it's not like I served them on a bed of wilted rocket and parmasan.

I wouldn't have been keen, simply because I don't like touching the bones. I'd eat the meat if it was pulled off the bone.

Then again, I was a vegetarian for 12 years - I think it's part of that.

I don't like chicken on the bone either and I certainly wouldn't feed a child guest something so potentially fraught - it's not exactly uncommon for people to not want to have to gnaw at their dinner

I rank chicken drumsticks as freezer food - I pour them out of a bag onto a tray and take them out 50 mins later and serve them, usually with chips.

I really didn't think so many people were quite this silly.

yes it is very silly. I made my son (7) finish the rabbit we had for dinner a couple of days ago, including cleaning all the little bones.

Look - if I came round to your house and it's eat your horrible lovely drumsticks or starve then ok I'll eat the vile things but I wouldn't choose them from a menu and I don't like them. I have every sympathy with this poor child - bet you gave him stilton too didn't you - when he was pining for a nice cheese string

Nope colditz, chicken drumsticks are the plaything of Satan! Nothing normal about them.

At least I eat peas though - I have two friends who won't....

Yeah, but it's not the meat that I'd have a problem with. It's the bone. & it is a little bit creepy (IMVHO) to have to pull flesh off the bone with your teeth. It's not about not understanding where it comes from, it's about not wanting to become physically involved with that process.

It's a on the same scale as (although much further along said scale, I know) not wanting to be pull its neck in the first place.
