Recommend a good mixer/food processor/blender, please!

My lovely, lovely dad sent me a large cheque for my 50th birthday.

One of the things I've always wanted is a proper mixer/fp/blender. Mine is OK, but the handle has broken on the blender, meaning that it's unusable - the handle forms part of the locking mechanism, and without being locked it won't work.

Any recommendations?

If you want to treat yourself I would recommend a magimix

They are a nice compact design so don't take up a lot of surface/cupboard space and they are really well made and sturdy. I used to have a Kenwood that was really bulky, used to move when on full and came with loads of annoying bits that you just don't need. After a couple of years the handle just snapped off.

I also think a hand blender does a better job than a jug blender and there is no problem with hot soup exploding out the top!

I do love a bit of kitchen shopping!

Does it have a blender attachment though, stubby? I have a stick blender and don't really like it, I'm afraid!

Thanks AD - it looks suspiciously cheap compared with the magimix! What's the processor like? Does it process things really finely?

Depends how much room (and how big the cheque is!) but my mum has this mixer and this blender and I'm very envious.

They are both beautiful to look at (well imo anyway!) and are really chunky and well made. I like going to hers to bake now! She has various attatchments with the mixer for chopping and mincing meat etc.

It's fabulous - grates a huge block of cheese, if you're so inclined in seconds and stir-fries are now a piece of cake.
The bread-dough hook has been well used etc. I honestly can't fault it at all.
And yes, it has a blender attached.
