Help! Steamer boiled dry. Potatoes and veg. taste burnt. Any way to rescue them?

I've tried steaming a bit longer in fresh water but the taste is still there. The carrots and parsnips and just about edible but the potatoes are awful.

We've had dinner without the potatoes but wonder if there is anything I could do with them before they go in the bin?
