Am dithering about buying dinner lady book........will i really use it ??

Is it really full of quick easy lovely things that even a proper cooking virgin like me can do ???? Or will it be chucked on my shelf next week and never be touched again ??

I got this last weekend and have used it. Very simple with a short ingredients list.

Also very informative, doesnt contain just recipies. It also has information about feeding children, schemes in schools, local food production, the journey that the author went on to change school meals, all really helpful and interesting.

i bought it in the week but havent used it yet.
the recipes look really nice and easy to make-im going to make them for dh and me

Have brought a few in the past hoping they would be simple enough for me but then either they have been too hard or sounded disgusting.

I am desperate to improve what the kids eat so hopefully the book will help with that.

I've made a few of the savoury recipes now and honestly - it really is a good book - everything I've made has gone down a storm with kids and dh.

If you make up double and buy some freezer trays, then you build up a stock of meals for the weeks ahead which makes life easier.

hmmm! just worth it for the cornflake tart recipe!... they're not particularly difficult recipes... very simple... and great if you haven't got a hugely well stocked larder with all sorts of herbs and spices... uses a lot of everyday stuff... nothing special needed to be bought in! i just like reading it for ideas!

I have used mine loads and even bake cakes from the book too. Very easy, simple child-friendly recipies. The one thing I will say is that the recipies can be a bit bland for adults as they are for children. Still am very impressed and have made loads from there.
I tend to go through and plan 4 meals, writing down all of the stuff I need for when I shop. Nowadays though I have most of it in the cupboards, especially the spices, flour etc.

Its one of the best cook books i own, esp for kids 'normal' meals (rather than fancy dinner partys!)

I have vegetable crumble tonight, made pasta with bacon and peas on thurs and banana bread last week, and used the cheesy yorkshire pud. recipie to make toad in the hole the week before!

This week we are trying out lemon chicken risotto and the mousaka recipie!

Its a fab book, and if you have cooks and like to cook them 'proper and normal' food for tea then it really IS worth adding to your collection!

Yes, bh is right about adapting the recipes for the adult portions eg more paprika in the goulash recipe or stronger curry powder in the chicken curry.

I've got a shelf full of cookbooks I never use! I've gathered some old faithful recipes over the years from my friend - when we go for dinner and I like it I ask for the recipe!
