My 8 month ds has been on solids for a while now and has always been a really good eater he doesnt like meat that much but usually loves fruit and veg, he can eat lumps and can feed himself finger food, the last couple of days he has refused any food i have made him he just shuts his mouth and looks away, he will only take his bottle i fear hes regressing back to before he had solids, the only thing i can get into him is fruit puree and he cant live off friuit help!

have you tried, a plate full of finger food i.e cheese lumps, cuecumber, apple, breadsticks or rice cakes, give to him and then walk away and do something else? it worked every time with my ds when he went through this...HTH

no i havent but i will try i just want to make sure hes getting everything he needs, should i just give in when he wont eat and give him a bottle or persist, he usually doesnt have a bottle with his meals he just has juice with bottles in between, anyone know why he could be doing it is it normal, hes been sticking his tounge right out today and hes never done that before could it be hurting him??

whatever you do do not make a issue of it, it will make it worse and will take a very long time to break. is it possible that hes having soo much milk that hes no hungery for food?

i usually try to give him food before his bottle so that doesnt happen heres is feeding routine if it helps

6am - 7oz bot
8am - porridge/cereal juice
12am - bowl of food i.e mashed potatoe, meat and veg, pudding, Juice
2pm - 70z bottle
4pm - dinner with pudding, juice
6.30pm - 7oz bottle
bed

he sometimes has finger foods i.e biscuits, fruit in between or with meals

is he teething? i know my son flat out refused solids when his teeth were (or are) really hurting him... as hard as it is, dont get worked up over it, it will pass. maybe try sitting down to lunch with your son when he eats, he might be more inclined to eat if he sees you having some too, or maybe cut back on his between meal snacks? it will pass though, hang in there

don't worry it will be a phase

he has probably just learnt thow to do it and practicsing.

as long as is still having some milk, he won't flake out. just keep offering a little food. don't make anythign to fancy (you'll ony be dissappointed if he doesn't eat it).

don't make a big deal of it.

does he seem ok, health wise?

sounds like he's teething... ds's cheeks get red and warm to the touch when he's cutting a tooth..if you're concerned, call your GP for an appointment (maybe check ds's temperature too?) -just give lots of cuddles and don't worry too much about him skipping some meals as long as he has milk to make up for it... take care..

they could all be symptoms of teethings, but keep an eye on the diarrhoea and make sure he is getting plenty of fluids still.. try to feel inside his mouth to see if you can feel any teeth below the gummy surface (the bottom front two will probably be first). if you haven't already, maybe try a cool teething ring or some teething gel to help him... hope he has a restful night (& you too)

(ds cut another tooth yesterday and was crying most of today! i sympathise with you!!)
