Goats milk - is it just me....

... or do other people find that it smells like it's gone off?!!? I use it to make ds's porridge, and it smells foul. Worse than rice milk! The first day I threw it away thinking it was off, but the next lot was just as bad. Does it just not heat well? Have tried micro and cooker, but both same result.

Also, we're only using a bit for his porridge, so are throwing away about a pint (only keep for 3 days as per carton) each time. Has anybody got a good recipe I could use to use some of the excess up?

Thanks, Laura

No, you are right, Laura, it just smells. Everything to do with goats smells!

Laura, it does smell and taste a bit like slightly gone-off cows milk. But I sometimes found when we used it that it actually WAS gone off, in which case it stank out the kitchen when heated!

I use it because I find it easier to digest than cows milk, and to be honest I think cows milk tastes like a gone off version of goats milk, so perhaps it's just that whichever one you're most used to is the one that smells right to you.

My goats milk lasts for about a week so I rarely have to throw any of it away. Are you using long-life milk? IMO long-life tastes much worse than fresh.

No, we are using the fresh stuff. Did wonder about the long-life version though. Glad to know it's not just me!

Try making rice pudding 1 pint of milk, 50 g desert rice, butter.
Grease abaking dish with butter pour on rice and add milk put butter shavings and nutmeg on top. I usually add some condensed mike as it makes it a bit creamier.
Bung in oven on 110 for two hours.

I am doing this off the top of my head so maybe check qantities this is a Good Housekeeping recipe very simple. Nigella has one which she cooks in a pan. Never tries it but I am sure it is good.
