what a fiddley job it is to skin and de-seed a tomato. Been weaning for 3 weeks now and want to add pastas etc and tomato based sauces. Do i have to go through all that or can i just use tinned tomatoes???
Are they higher in sugars, salts??
I should know this i know.

I asked this the other day as I noticed my Heinz tinned chopped toms only contain tomatoes, tomato juice and citric acid. Everyone thought it was ok so I've been using them since - ds3 is 7.5 months.

check the tins and but the ones with the least salt/sugar.

I have to admit, I either just used chopped fresh tomatoes as is and picked the skin out after they were cooked or tinned tomatoes and diluted down with milk or water (I know that doesn't change the salt/sugar content but it made the taste 'gentler' on the palate). Did this from 7 months.

Just use tinned tomatoes. Life is too damn short for skinning and deseeding .

Would agree - sure they dont add salt or sugar to them although not sure what 'citric acid' is but dont think there is very much. Have only tried this once when making a pasta sauce for DD (7 months) which went completely wrong as couldnt find baby/soup pasta so tried to blend normal pasta - went completely wrong and she threw it up at friends house. But that's another thread...dont want to get into that!!!

If you compare the salt contents of most tinned veggies and jarred baby foods by serving, there is usually less salt in the veggies.
