Just how do you lovingly prepare something???? Beats me! Must be something Annabel invented to go with delicious and nutritious.

PMSL!!!

They don't even eat the bloody sarnies!! They just eat the hula hoops and cakes!! And good on em too - you're only a kid once and it's a bloody party for Gawd's sake!

Grapes. And good too - they can kill you you know! Much more dangerous than a fish finger!!

Even the bloody chocolate spread sanwiches made with white bread get left (of course I serve lentils and chickpeas at my parties, so don't speak from experience ).

Kids like what we liked at parties - cake, more cake, chocolate, crisps and sweets - all washed down with a great big slug of coke. And quite right too!

Satsumas!

I always have a bag when doing party food, and maybe one or two get eaten.

They get eaten later at home though. and yes, I agree about the cherry tomatoes!

I take the advice of wiser MNers and now don't even try sandwiches. Sausages and crisps, that's the way to go IMO.

My ds is ahving a birthday party a week on Sat - we are doing sandwiches - should I not bother. It's a 3rd birthday party and there will be 30 kids (it's a joint party)

WE're doing:
Sarnies
Sausages
Pizza
bread sticks
strawberries, raspberries & melon
Choc fingers
Fairy buns
trifle

What do you think?

There are PLENTY of crisps, enough to go round

We went to a works do of DP's just before Christmas, with the Inferiorettes in tow and much fussed over. DD2 kept sauntering across during the leaving speeches to help herself to another handful of crisps. I would have blushed except I was struck dumb with admiration for such blatant espousal of her mother's values

I know the feeling, last party I did I gave up slightly and did Jam, Honey and Marmite sandwiches, only enough for about 1/4 sandwich or each flavour for each child, more than half came home!! Cheese chunks, mini sausages, cucumber, pepper strips, mini fairy cakes, choclate crispy cakes, crisps and jelly (dd wanted jelly) Most of the crisps were eaten!! Sausages went, cheese hardly any got eaten! Loads of jelly left

I wouldn't do nuggets as party food as I wouldn't do hot food unless I was out. DD is looking forawrd to a Pizza Express party tomorrow, should be fun!

doesn't anyone do jelly these days?

that used to be a staple when I were a lass

I wouldn't bother with sandwiches, honestly. It's so demeaning when they don't eat them.

I did jeey a year ago, in little paper cases as I remember from my childhood, and it was very well received.

For ds1's party in April I'm going with MunchedTooManyMarsLady's suggestion of hotdogs and then an ice cream cone (with sauce and sprinkles).

I am not a big one for giving children healthy food at parties - it is a party FGS - but I have developed a ploy for getting them to eat more than just crisps and chocolate. I only put the savoury things out first, typically sandwiches, crisps, pizza, sausages, etc and make sure everyone eats something (not just crisps). Then I put all the sweet, fun stuff out and just turn my back so I don't have to know how much they scoff!
